These Substances may Inhibit the Formation of Wrinkles or Facilitate the Reduction of Existing Wrinkles

Amino Acids

Alpha-Ketoglutarate (AKG) may help to diminish the appearance of Wrinkles.  [1]

Creatine (applied topically) may diminish the appearance of Wrinkles.  [2]

Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetate (EDTA) (administered orally or via IV) may help to remove Wrinkles (due to its ability to reverse cross-linkages in the the Skin).  [3]

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) (applied topically) may help to prevent Wrinkles caused by exposure of the Skin to Ultraviolet Radiation (i.e. it may help to prevent photoaging of the Skin).  [4]

Carbohydrates

Beta-Glucans (applied topically) may inhibit the formation of Wrinkles:  [5]

Beta 1,3 Glucan (applied topically as a constituent of products such as Nayad) may inhibit the formation of Wrinkles.

Fucose (applied topically) may diminish Wrinkles.  [6]

Glucosamine (administered orally) may reduce the number of visible Wrinkles.  [7]

Hyaluronic Acid (applied topically or consumed orally) may retard the formation of Wrinkles:  [8]

Hyaluronic Acid depletion (in the Dermis) may be one of the underlying causes of Wrinkles.

Hyaluronic Acid may facilitate the retention of optimal amounts of Water in the matrix of Connective Tissue in the Dermis of the Skin (thereby enhancing the elasticity of the Skin - loss of viscoelasticity of the Skin is a major contributory factor for the formation of Wrinkles).

Carotenoids

Astaxanthin (orally) may reduce fine Wrinkles.  [9]

Beta-Carotene (30 mg per day orally) may diminish Wrinkles.  [10]

Cosmetic Treatments

Chemical Peels may diminish fine Wrinkles.

Collagen Replacement Therapy employs exogenous Collagen (Zyderm or Zylplast injected by a qualified Dermatologist) to (temporarily) diminish fine Wrinkles.  [11]

Electrorydesis (a procedure involving the exposure of the Skin to specific pulsed electromagnetic fields) may diminish the appearance of Wrinkles (primarily by increasing the Hyaluronic Acid content of the Dermis of the Skin).  [12]

Laser Skin Resurfacing may diminish the appearance of fine lines and Wrinkles (especially around the Eyes, Lips and Mouth).  It may also reduce Wrinkles caused by photoaging (i.e. damage to the Skin caused by excessive exposure to Sunlight).

Exposure to Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) (using 633 nm and 830 nm spectrum light) may reduce the appearance of Wrinkles.  [13]

Enzymes

Proteolytic Enzymes - Dietary (applied topically) may diminish the appearance of Wrinkles:  [14]

Papain (applied topically or ingested orally) may inhibit the formation of fine Wrinkles.  [15]

Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) (cream applied topically) may help to reduce Wrinkles.  [16]

Increasing the activity of Telomerase in the Skin is presently under investigation as a means of diminishing Wrinkles:  [17]

This is a highly experimental therapy and is not presently used in practice.

Factors

Skin Respiratory Factor(applied topically) may noticeably reduce the appearance of fine lines and Wrinkles.  [18]

Hormones

DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) (administered either orally or applied topically as DHEA Skin cream) may delay the onset of Wrinkles (according to anecdotal reports).

Exogenous Estrogens (specifically topically applied 0.01% Estradiol or 0.3% Estriol) may significantly decrease Wrinkles (as measured scientifically by the depth of Wrinkles using Skin profilometry) by between 61% and 100%:  [19]

Oral Estrogens (administered orally as part of Estrogen Replacement Therapy) may also minimize Wrinkles.

Estrogens - Conjugated (cream applied topically) may reverse Wrinkles.  [20]

Pregnenolone (cream applied topically) may transiently diminish the appearance of Wrinkles (by rehydrating the Skin).  [21]

Progesterone (cream applied topically) may help to remove fine Wrinkles from aged Skin and may provide underlying firmness to aged Skin.  [22]

Lipids

Boswellic Acid (applied topically) may diminish Wrinkles.  [23]

Ceraphyl GA-D (a constituent of the Skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factor) may facilitate the retention of moisture in the Skin.  [24]

Squalene (consumed orally) may diminish Wrinkles.  [25]

Minerals

Premature Wrinkles may occur as a result of Silicon deficiency (due to Silicon being an essential component of Collagen) - Stretch Marks may occur after Pregnancy as a result of Silicon deficiency.  [26]

Nuclear Compounds

Adenosine (cream applied topically) may diminish Wrinkles.  [27]

Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) (applied topically) may help to reduce the appearance of Wrinkles.  [28]

Organic Acids

Ursolic Acid (applied topically) may counteract Wrinkles (by increasing the Collagen and Ceramides content of the Skin).  [29]

Peptides

Biopeptide-CL (applied topically) may reduce Wrinkles.  [30]

Carnosine may help to prevent and reverse Wrinkles by preventing and reversing the Cross-Linking of the Skin that leads to Wrinkles.  [31]

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide (applied topically) may reduce Wrinkles.  [32]

Rigin (applied topically) may diminish Wrinkles.  [33]

Polyphenols

Daidzein may inhibit the ability of Ultra-Violet Radiation to cause Wrinkles (ie. it may help to prevent photoaging of the Skin).  [34]

Ellagic Acid (applied topically) may help to prevent Wrinkles.  [35]
