Glucosamine made from glucose and the amino acid glutamine and found in healthy cartilage. Glucosamine involved in the formation and repair of cartilage and other body tissues is manufactured endogenously. Glucosamine's production slows with aging.

Health Benefits of Glucosamine

Glucosamine may help to prevent and alleviate Atherosclerosis (by stimulating the production of protective endogenous Glycosaminoglycans by the Endothelium that lines Blood Vessels).  [1]

Glucosamine may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.  [2]

Excretory System

Glucosamine alleviates the symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis.  [6]

Immune System

Glucosamine may inhibit the proliferation of Cancer - Prostate cells.  [13]

Metabolism

Glucosamine may inhibit the generation of Superoxide Free Radicals.  [14]

Musculoskeletal System

Glucosamine (consumed orally or applied topically) is claimed to alleviate the Pain associated with Backache.  [15]

Exogenous, supplemental Glucosamine may "instruct" Chondroclasts to cease destroying Cartilage and may reactivate Chondroblasts to recommence "building" new Cartilage.  [16]

Glucosamine may accelerate the healing of Fractures:  [17]

Anecdotal reports from doctors have stated that oral Glucosamine supplementation has in some cases accelerated the healing of Fractures by up to threefold.
