Description

Lung Cancer is a form of Cancer involving the formation/growth of malignant tumor(s) in the Lungs.

 Lung Cancer - Prevention/Treatment

 

 Overall, Lung Cancer is the second most commonly-occurring form of Cancer (for both men and women) and is the leading cause of Cancer-related deaths in the world.

 Lung Cancer accounts for 16% of all cases of Cancer in men and accounts for 33% of Cancer deaths in men (in the USA in 1994)

 Lung Cancer accounts for 13% of all cases of Cancer in women and accounts for 23% of Cancer deaths in women (in the USA in 1994).

Amines

 Nitrosamines may cause Lung Cancer:

 Methylnitrosamino-1-(3-pyridyl)-l-butanone (NNK) is a specific Nitrosamine present in Tobacco smoke that (after its conversion to metabolites) causes Lung Cancer.

Electromagnetic Radiation

 Exposure to (both environmental and medical) X-Rays may increase the risk of Lung Cancer.

Environmental Toxins

 Exposure to Air Pollution may increase the risk of Lung Cancer.  ^[1]

 Exposure to Asbestos may cause Lung Cancer.

 Polyvinyl Chloride(PVC) increases the risk of Lung Cancer.

Lipids

 Lung Cancer cells produce greater quantities of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) than surrounding healthy tissue and PGE2 may encourage the further growth of Lung Cancer cells.  ^[2]
