Overview

Autoimmune Diseases are a group of otherwise unrelated disorders that are caused by the Inflammation and destruction of tissues within the body by the body's own Antibodies (Auto-Antibodies) and T-Lymphocytes.  Some evidence strongly suggests that Autoimmune Diseases result from Hydrolases escaping from Lysosomes whose membranes have been ruptured by Lipid Peroxidation and other causes. These Hydrolases then combine with and denature normal endogenous Proteins (in effect, converting them into Antigens), which the body reacts to by producing Antibodies.

Prevalence

Autoimmune Diseases are more prevalent in women than in men.

These Substances may Prevent/Alleviate Autoimmune Diseases

Amino Acids

Glutathione may halt the production of Cytokines when they are produced in excessive amounts, which can cause autoimmune diseases. It is often recommended that Cysteine and Glutamine be supplemented to stimulate Glutathione production, as Glutathione is poorly absorbed orally.  Anecdotal Evidence

Carbohydrates

Glucosamine (especially the N-Acetyl-Glucosamine (NAG) form) may be useful for the treatment/prevention of Autoimmune Diseases.  [1]

Enzymes

Enzyme Therapy (i.e., involving multiple Enzymes, especially Proteolytic Enzymes) may break down (degrade) Immune Complexes implicated in Autoimmune Diseases.  Specific Enzymes that are commonly utilized during Enzyme Therapy to degrade Immune Complexes include:  Anecdotal Evidence

 Salivary Amylase

 Bromelain

 Chymotrypsin

 Lipases

 Pancreatin

 Papain

 Trypsin

Wobenzyme N, a proprietary formula of various Enzymes, may alleviate some Autoimmune Diseases by dissolving the Immune Complexes implicated in most Autoimmune Diseases.  Anecdotal Evidence

Hormones

Progesterone: a natural Progesterone cream applied topically, may alleviate many Autoimmune Diseases in women. The underlying mechanism for this effect is speculated to be its ability to counteract estrogen dominance, which has been implicated as a cause of many Autoimmune Diseases in women.  [2]

Lipids

Beta-Sitosterol may help to control Autoimmune Diseases.  [3]

Beta-Sitosterol Glycoside may help to control Autoimmune Diseases.  [4]

Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) may help to prevent some types of Autoimmune Diseases.  [5]

Omega-3 Fatty Acids may help to prevent and treat Autoimmune Diseases:  [6]
