Novel Medical Usage of Olmesartan

Olmesartan’s use for purposes other than the treatment of Hypertension is based on the observation that it reduces the production of inflammatory Cytokines by blocking Antiotension-II Type I Receptors.  This inhibits the release of Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) during the Th1 immune reaction.  Olmesartan is an integral component of the so-called “Marshall Protocol” for the treatment of Autoimmune Diseases.
