Description

Medium-Chain Triglycerides, known as MCT's, are synthetically manufactured Triglycerides whose Fatty Acids are Saturated and have medium chain lengths of 6 to 12 carbons;  mainly 8 and 10.  MCTs do not normally exist in nature - they are a byproduct of the Fractionation manufacturing process used to separate Lauric Acid and Myristic Acid from Tropical Oils (usually Coconut Oil) in the production of Margarine.

Health Benefits of MCTs

Cardiovascular System

MCTs may help to prevent Atherosclerosis.  [1]

Digestive System

MCTs may improve the condition of Crohn's Disease patients.  [2]

MCTs may alleviate Ulcers - Duodenal.  [3]

MCTs may alleviate Ulcers - Gastric.  [4]

MCTs may help to prevent Gallstones because MCTs can be reabsorbed and hydrolyzed without the use of Bile Acids or Pancreatic Lipase.  [5]

MCTs may improve the condition of Ulcerative Colitis patients.

Immune System

MCTs may help to prevent some types of Autoimmune Diseases.  [6]

Metabolism

MCTs may enhance Athletic Performance, especially when consumed in conjunction with Glucose, by providing a rapid burst of Energy that sustains athletic output.  Clinical studies using MCTs to improve Athletic Performance have involved the use of up to 86 grams of MCTs combined with 8.6 grams of Glucose.  [7]

MCTs may increase the Basal Metabolism (BMR) by up to 40%.  [8]

 MCTs may alleviate Cirrhosis.  [9]

MCTs may improve Glucose metabolism in Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 patients (possibly by increasing Insulin sensitivity).  [10]

MCTs may provide the body with rapidly available Energy:  [11]

MCTs are readily transported across Mitochondrial Membranes where they are used as a source of fuel for the rapid generation of Energy.

MCTs are a useful source of Energy for persons in which dietary Fat malabsorption is a problem.
