Lithium
Overview
Lithium is mostly known for it's use in bi-polar disorder but is recognized as essential in trace amounts in human nutrition. Lithium is from the same chemical class of minerals as Sodium and Potassium.
Health Benefits of Lithium
Cardiovascular System
Lithium may help to prevent Heart Attack: Anecdotal Evidence
Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that communities that have the highest levels of Lithium in their drinking water have the lowest incidence of Heart Attack.
Lithium may minimize the Brain damage that occurs subsequent to (ischemic) Stroke. [1]
Digestive System
Lithium may prevent Ulcers - Duodenal: Anecdotal Evidence
Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that communities that have the highest levels of Lithium in their drinking water have the lowest incidence of Duodenal Ulcers.
Lithium may prevent Ulcers - Gastric: Anecdotal Evidence
Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that communities that have the highest levels of Lithium in their drinking water have the lowest incidence of Gastric Ulcers.
Immune System
Lithium may help to prevent some types of Cancer. Anecdotal Evidence
Lithium Succinate ointment applied topically may accelerate the healing of Herpes Simplex Virus (Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 and Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2) lesions. Oral Lithium therapy may reduce the number of episodes of Herpes Simplex outbreaks, may reduce the duration of each episode and may reduce the severity of the symptoms of Herpes Simplex outbreaks. [2]
Lithium may enhance the function of the Immune System. Anecdotal Evidence
Lithium may stimulate the production of Lymphocytes. Anecdotal Evidence
Lithium may stimulate Stem Cells. [3]
Lithium may depress the Immune System's Suppressor T-Cells. Anecdotal Evidence
Lithium may increase the production of White Blood Cells in persons with low White Blood Cell counts. [4]
Metabolism
Lithium may be useful for the treatment of Grave's Disease. [5]
Lithium may be useful for the treatment of Hyperthyroidism. [6]
Lithium concentrates in the Thyroid Gland.
Musculoskeletal System
Lithium concentrates in the Bones.
Lithium may be useful for the treatment of Fibromyalgia. [7]
Lithium may help to prevent and treat Gout: [8]
Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that communities that have the highest levels of Lithium in their drinking water have the lowest incidence of Gout.
Lithium may prevent Rheumatism: Anecdotal Evidence
Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that communities that have the highest levels of Lithium in their drinking water have the lowest incidence of Rheumatism.
Nervous System
Lithium may reduce Aggressiveness. [9]
Lithium may inhibit the progression of Alzheimer's Disease by protecting Neurons against Amyloid-Beta Protein-induced and Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3-inducd Cell death. [10]
Lithium may be useful for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa. [11]
Lithium concentrates in the Brain (in the Pituitary Gland gland at the base of the brain).
Lithium sedates the Central Nervous System.
Lithium may treat and prevent some forms of Depression where the cause is difficulty in the transport of Sodium:
Lithium (150 mg per day of the Lithium Orotate) alleviates (recurrent) Major Depression. [12]
Lithium alleviates the Mania phase of Manic Depression. [13]
Lithium may alleviate the Pain associated with cluster Headache. [14]
Lithium may improve Learning ability. [15]
Lithium may improve Memory: [16]
Lithium may improve Spatial Memory. [17]
Lithium may prevent various Mental Ailments - especially Mood & Mood Disorders disorders: Anecdotal Evidence
