Central Nervous System
Description
The Central Nervous System (CNS) comprises the Brain, Brain Stem, Cerebellum, and Spinal Chord. It is responsible for the coordination of all of the nervous activities associated with the Nervous System.
These Substances may Enhance the General Health of the CNS
Smart Drugs
Centrophenoxine may retard the accumulation of Lipofuscin in the CNS.
Dilantin may stabilize and normalize the electrical activities of the CNS without exerting stimulant or sedative effects.
Nootropics (class of Smart Drugs including Piracetam) may enhance the function of the CNS:
However, Nootropics do not stimulate nor sedate the CNS and they do not affect the Cardiovascular System - their method of action is still being studied.
Vitamins
Folic Acid may enhance the general health of the CNS.
These Foods/Herbs may Enhance the General Health of the CNS
Fungi - Edible
Cordyceps may stimulate the CNS (many anecdotal reports describe the stimulating effects of Caterpillar Fungus as being similar to those induced by Ephedrine).
Herbs
Cocoa may act as a “tonic” for the CNS.
Hibiscus (tea) may act as a general tonic for the CNS.
These Substances Sedate (depress) the CNS
Substances that sedate the CNS are often described as "calming the nerves".
Alcohols
Dimethylvinylcarbinol may sedate the CNS.
Aldehydes
Citronellal (vapors inhaled during Aromatherapy) may sedate the CNS. [1]
Amino Acids
Glycine may sedate the CNS.
Threonine may sedate in the CNS.
Taurine may sedate the CNS.
Theanine may sedate the CNS. [2]
