Breast Cancer Treatments - Substances
These Substances may help to Prevent or Treat Breast Cancer
Alkaloids
Berberine may inhibit the growth of Breast Cancer cells. [1]
Caffeine (in non-excessive amounts) may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [2]
Capsaicin may facilitate the apoptosis (cell death) of Breast Cancer cells. [3]
Amino Acids
Arginine may boost the ability of the Immune System to fight Breast Cancer. [4]
Cysteine may help to prevent Breast Cancer: [5]
N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [6]
Glutamine may help to prevent carcinogens-induced Breast Cancer. [7]
Auxins
Some dietary Indoles may prevent Breast Cancer by activating protective Enzymes that deactivate Estrogens:
Ascorbigen may help to prevent Breast Cancer (by indirectly reducing levels of 16-Hydroxyestrone).
Diindolylmethane (DIM) may inhibit the development of Breast Cancer (by inhibiting the conversion of Estrone to its carcinogenic metabolite - 16-Hydroxyestrone; and redirecting Estrone to be converted to its safe metabolite - 2-Hydroxyestrone). [8]
Indole-3-Carbinol may help to prevent Breast Cancer by stimulating the conversion of Estrone (the Estrogen which is known to cause Breast Cancer in excess) to its inactive metabolite - 2-Hydroxyestrone. [9]
Carbohydrates
Alpha 1,3 Glucan may be useful for the treatment of Breast Cancer. [10]
D-Glucaric Acid may help to prevent Breast Cancer (by inhibiting the Beta-Glucuronidase enzyme). [11]
Fucoidan (a constituent of Laminaria species of Kelp) may help to prevent Breast Cancer.
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) may help to prevent (carcinogen-induced) Breast Cancer. [12]
Glucosamine may inhibit the proliferation of Breast Cancer cells. [13]
Inulin may help to prevent (carcinogen-induced) Breast Cancer. [14]
Kureha may be a valuable adjunct to Chemotherapy for the treatment of Breast Cancer (it may produce better results than Chemotherapy alone in Breast Cancer patients). [15]
Lentinan may increase the life span of Breast Cancer patients. [16]
Pectins may help to prevent (carcinogen-induced) Breast Cancer: [17]
Modified Citrus Pectin may inhibit the metastasis of Breast Cancer. [18]
Psyllium may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [19]
Carotenoids
Alpha-Carotene may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [20]
Astaxanthin may help to prevent and treat Breast Cancer. [21]
Beta-Carotene (particularly the Liposomal form of Beta-Carotene) may reduce the risk of Breast Cancer - epidemiological studies indicate that high serum levels of Beta-Carotene correlate with a low incidence of Breast Cancer. [22]
Canthaxanthin may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [23]
Cryptoxanthin may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [24]
Lutein may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [25]
Lycopene may help to prevent and Breast Cancer and also inhibits the proliferation of Cancer Cells involved in Breast Cancer (primarily by interfering with the ability of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) to stimulate the growth of Breast Cancer Cells). [26]
Zeaxanthin may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [27]
Enzymes
Bromelain (600 mg per day) may cause the regression of some cases of Breast Cancer and may inhibit the metastasis of Breast Cancer. [28]
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [29]
Future Drugs
N-(4-Hydroxyphenyl) Retinamide (a synthetic Vitamin A Derivative [a Retinoid]) is presently under investigation for the prevention of Breast Cancer. [30]
Hormones
Adiponectin may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [31]
Increased production of 2-Hydroxyestrone has been associated with a reduction in the risk of Breast Cancer - this occurs because 2-Hydroxyestrone production from Estrone is an indicator of reduced conversion of Estrone to 16-Hydroxyestrone (the metabolite of Estrone that is implicated in Breast Cancer).
DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) may help to prevent Breast Cancer. [32]
Estriol may protect against the development of (carcinogens-induced, Estradiol and Estrone-induced and Radiation Therapy-induced) Breast Cancer: [33]
Estriol competes with Estradiol and Estrone for the occupancy of Estrogens Receptors. Because Estriol has minimal ability to stimulate Cell proliferation, it may inhibit the ability of other Estrogens to stimulate Breast Cell proliferation (by occupying Estrogens Receptors that would otherwise be occupied by Estradiol or Estrone).
