Also known as:  CHD;  Coronary Heart Disease;  Ischaemic Heart Disease

Description

Ischemic Heart Disease involves the obstruction of Blood Circulation through the Coronary Arteries that supply the Myocardium (middle layer of Cardiac Muscle) of the Heart.

Prevalence

Ischemic Heart Disease affects both males and females at the same rate - although males normally develop this ailment after the age of 39, while females normally develop Ischemic Heart Disease after the age of 60.

These Substances may Alleviate/Prevent Ischemic Heart Disease

Amino Acids

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) may restore Heart function in Ischemic Heart Disease patients.

Carnitine may be useful for Ischemic Heart Disease patients:  [1]

-                      The Propionyl-L-Carnitine (LPC) form of Carnitine may restore Heart function in Ischemic Heart Disease patients.  [2]

Dimethyl Glycine (DMG) (100 – 200 mg per day) may permit Ischemic Heart Disease patients to increase their Exercise capabilities.  [3]

Glutamine may improve the function of the Heart in Ischemic Heart Disease patients.  [4]

Taurine (up to 5,000 mg per day) may alleviate Ischemic Heart Disease.  [5]

Carbohydrates

Chondroitin Sulfate A may prevent Ischemic Heart Disease and may lower the mortality and incidence rate in people with pre-existing Ischemic Heart Disease.  [6]

Dietary Fiber (especially Soluble Fiber) may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease.  [7]

Grapefruit Pectin may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease (by lowering Blood Hematocrit levels, thereby lowering the viscosity of the Blood).

Ribose may increase Energy production in the Cardiac Muscle of Ischemic Heart Disease patients.  [8]

Hormones

Restoring low endogenous Melatonin levels to normal (via Melatonin supplementation) may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease.  [9]

Low endogenous levels of Testosterone increases the risk of Ischemic Heart Disease (and Testosterone replacement therapy may therefore help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease).  [10]

Lipids

Omega-3 Fatty Acids may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease.  [11]

Alpha-Linolenic Acid (LNA) (at least 2,000 mg per day) may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease and LNA also reduces the mortality rate in people already affected by Ischemic Heart Disease.  [12]

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease.  [13]

Minerals

Magnesium may prevent and treat Ischemic Heart Disease:  [14]

Magnesium may prevent Convulsions (seizures) caused by Ischemic Heart Disease.

Organic Acids

Rosmarinic Acid may help to prevent and treat Ischemic Heart Disease.  [15]

Proteins

High consumption of Proteins - Dietary may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease.  [16]

High serum Albumin levels may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease.  [17]

Quinones

Coenzyme Q10 may reduce the viscosity of the Blood in Ischemic Heart Disease patients, may increase Superoxide Dismutase levels, and may increase endothelium-depndent relaxation and peak VO2 levels in Ischemic Heart Disease patients.  [18]

Recreational Drugs

Daily consumption of SMALL quantities of Alcohol (ethanol) may reduce the risk of Ischemic Heart Disease.  [19]

Smart Drugs

Nimodipine may prevent Convulsions (seizures) caused by Ischemic Heart Disease.

Vitamins

Folic Acid may prevent Ischemic Heart Disease:  [20]

People with a low daily intake of Folic Acid may have a 69% greater risk of Ischemic Heart Disease compared to people who consume 400 mcg or more of Folic Acid each day.
