Ribose
Overview
D-Ribose is a 5-carbon sugar made in our bodies' cells from glucose and is the building block of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the source of all cellular energy. Ribose does not raise blood sugar levels.
Biological Function/Therapeutic Uses of Ribose
Cardiovascular System
Ribose (60 grams per day) may increase the Heart’s tolerance to Ischemia in Atherosclerosis patients: [1]
Ribose may increase Energy production in the Cardiac Muscle of Intermittent Claudication patients. [2]
Ribose increases Energy production in Cardiac Muscle. [3]
Ribose may increase Energy production in the Cardiac Muscle of Congestive Heart Failure patients. [4]
Ribose may increase Energy production in the Cardiac Muscle of Ischemic Heart Disease patients: [5]
Ribose may increase Energy production in the Cardiac Muscle of Angina patients. [6]
Ribose may increase Energy production in the Cardiac Muscle of Heart Attack patients. [7]
Ribose (15 grams per day) may alleviate Restless Legs Syndrome. [8]
Cells
Ribose is present in all living Cells of the human body (as a constituent of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) and Ribonucleic Acid (RNA).
Metabolism
Supplemental Ribose may improve some aspects of Athletic Performance. [9]
Ribose may be useful may be useful for reducing Fatigue and increasing Energy in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) patients. [10]
