These Substances may Prevent Abnormal Blood Clotting

Substances that prevent Blood Clots are known as Anti-Coagulants or Platelet Aggregation Inhibitors.

Alcohols

Alcohol (ethanol) - in non-excessive quantities - may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (by stimulating the production of Tissue Plasminogen Activator - the endogenous enzyme that catalyzes the activation of Plasminogen to active Plasmin).

Alkaloids

Capsaicin may prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (it possesses Fibrinolysis properties).

Rynchophylline (an Alkaloid in Cat’s Claw) may inhibit abnormal Blood Clotting.  [1]

Amino Acids

Alliin (a derivative of Cysteine) may prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.

Arginine may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (by stimulating the production of Plasmin, an enzyme that lowers Fibrinogen levels).  [2]

Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetate (EDTA) - the synthetic Amino Acid used in Chelation Therapy - may help to “dissolve” abnormal Blood Clots and may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.  [3]

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) may reverse abnormal Blood Clotting.  [4]

Taurine may prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.  [5].

Theanine may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (by inhibiting the ability of Thrombin to initiate Blood Clotting).

Carbohydrates

Chondroitin Sulfate (CSA-B form) (3,000 mg per day) may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.  [6]

Dextran Sulfate may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (i.e. it functions as an Anticoagulant).

Fucoidan may inhibit abnormal Blood Clotting.  [7]

Glucosamine may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.  [8]

Heparin may inhibit abnormal Blood Clotting (by inhibiting the conversion of Prothrombin to Thrombin).

Carotenoids

Lycopene may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.  [9]

Coumarins

3-n-Butyl-Phthalide may inhibit abnormal Blood Clotting.  [10]

Enzymes

Plasmin may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (and can dissolve existing Blood Clots).

Plasmin catalyzes the conversion of Fibrin to soluble products (i.e. it possesses Fibrinolysis activity).

Plasminogen may (indirectly) help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (by serving as a precursor for Plasmin).

Supplemental Proteases may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting (by facilitating the breakdown (fibrinolysis) of Fibrinogen, maintaining the flexibility of Red Blood Cells and inhibiting platelet aggregation):  [11]

Brinase may help to prevent and treat abnormal Blood Clotting (by dissolving Blood Clots).  [12]

Bromelain may inhibit abnormal Blood Clotting (by stimulating the breakdown of Fibrinogen (fibrinolysis)).  [13]

Chymotrypsin may inhibit abnormal Blood Clotting.  [14]
