Sunlight
Also known as: Full Spectrum Light
Description
Sunlight is a type of Light that travels 93 million miles from the Sun and is now classed as an essential nutrient - as essential as food, water and air. Sunlight actually comprises a mixture of Ultra-Violet Radiation, Visible Light and Infrared Radiation that has emanated from the Sun - it also contains X-Rays and Gamma Radiation, however these spectrums of Electromagnetic Radiation are prevented from reaching the surface of the earth by dust particles, moisture droplets and Ozone in the upper atmosphere of the earth. The Color Rendering Index Value for Sunlight is 100.
Health Benefits of Sunlight
Cardiovascular System
Moderate exposure to Sunlight may alleviate Atherosclerosis in many cases.
Sunlight therapy may increase the efficiency of the Heart - Sunlight exposure may cause the Heart to become stronger and to pump more Blood.
Moderate exposure to Sunlight may lower Blood Pressure in High Blood Pressure patients. [1]
Detoxification
Moderate exposure to Sunlight may reduce the craving for Alcohol.
Sunlight may enhance the Liver's ability to detoxify dangerous drugs.
Immune System
Sunlight may kill most types of Bacteria - Detrimental. [2]
Regular exposure to Sunlight may help to prevent (non-Hodgkins) Lymphomas. [3]
Contrary to popular belief, some scientific studies support the theory that moderate (but not excessive) exposure to Sunlight may reduce the risk of Melanoma. [4]
Optimal exposure to Sunlight may help to prevent Cancer - Ovaries (due to Sunlight stimulating the endogenous production of Vitamin D): [5]
Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that women who receive the least exposure to Sunlight are 18 times more likely to develop Ovarian Cancer than those who receive the most exposure to Sunlight.
Regular exposure to optimal amounts of Sunlight may help to prevent Cancer - Prostate (probably due to the Ultraviolet Radiation content of Sunlight stimulating the production of Vitamin D). [6]
Sunlight may increase the production of White Blood Cells (probably due to the UV-A content of Sunlight). [7]
Metabolism
Sunlight may increase the body's Basal Metabolism (by stimulating the Thyroid Gland).
Sunlight may reduce total serum levels of Cholesterol (by facilitating Cholesterol's conversion to Vitamin D): [8]
Exposure to Sunlight may lower serum Low Density Lipoproteins levels.
Adequate exposure to Sunlight may reduce the Fatigue that results from excessive exposure to Artificial Lighting.
Sunlight exposure may cure new-born babies who suffer from Jaundice.
Sunlight may alleviate Hypothyroidism (by stimulating the Thyroid Gland). [9]
Sunlight may facilitate weight loss in Obesity sufferers.
Sunlight may reduce serum Triglycerides levels.
Musculoskeletal System
Mild exposure of the Skin to Sunlight may alleviate Keratosis Pilaris.
Adequate exposure to Sunlight may alleviate Osteoarthritis.
Sunlight may help to prevent Osteomalacia (by increasing the body's endogenous production of Vitamin D).
Adequate exposure to Sunlight may help to prevent and treat Osteoporosis (due to Sunlight’s role in the production of Vitamin D). [10]
Nervous System
Adequate exposure to Sunlight may help to prevent Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD):
However excessive exposure to Sunlight can cause or exacerbate ADD.
Adequate exposure to Sunlight is necessary for the maintenance of Circadian Rhythms (due to Ultra-Violet Radiation contained in Sunlight).
Moderate exposure to Sunlight may help to prevent Multiple Sclerosis (due to Sunlight’s role in the production of Vitamin D). [11]
Sunlight influences the actions of the Pituitary Gland.
Sunlight may cure Seasonal Affective Disorder (by stimulating the Pineal Gland to produce Melatonin). [12]
Moderate exposure to Sunlight may improve the quality of Sleep (probably due to the UV-A content of Sunlight). [13]
Respiratory System
In some cases, Asthma patients may be able to breathe freely after Sunlight therapy (according to anecdotal reports).
Sunlight may kill the Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Bacteria that causes Tuberculosisand also accelerates the recovery from Tuberculosis.
Skin
Exposure of afflicted areas of the Skin to Sunlight may alleviate (atopic) Eczema (due to the UV-B component of Sunlight). [14]
