Melanoma

Also known as:  Malignant Melanoma

Melanoma is type of highly malignant form of Cancer (tumor) of Melanin-forming Cells (Melanocytes) - usually in the Skin.  It is the most aggressive (and lethal) form of Skin Cancer.  Unless it is detected and treated in its early stages, it has great potential for spreading to other organs and can be fatal.  Malignant Melanomas look like spilled ink and differ from moles in that they do not have even borders like normal moles.

 Melanoma accounts for 75% of all deaths from Skin Cancer - the incidence of Melanoma has increased by 4% per annum since 1973.

 Melanoma is lethal in approximately 20% of cases.

Alkaloids

 Piperine may inhibit the of Melanoma cells to other regions of the body.  ^[1]

 Swainsonine may inhibit the of Melanoma.  ^[2]

Amino Acids

 N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) may help to prevent Melanoma.  ^[3]

Carbohydrates

 Beta 1,3 Glucan may help to destroy the malignant Cells that cause Melanoma (by activating Macrophages).  ^[4]

 Kureha may prolong lifespan and duration of remission in Melanoma patients.  ^[5]

 Modified Citrus Pectin may inhibit the of Melanoma.  ^[6]

Enzymes

 Papain (combined with Chymotrypsin and Trypsin) may be useful for the treatment of Melanoma.  ^[7]

Hormones

 Melatonin is presently being investigated as a treatment for Melanoma (its main effect appears to be to prevent the of Melanoma to the Brain, thereby helping to prevent Brain Cancer in Melanoma patients).  ^[8]

Hydrazines

 Hydrazine Sulfate may inhibit the growth of Melanoma cells.  ^[9]

Lipids

 Betulinic Acid may kill Melanoma cells.  ^[10]

 Carnosol may inhibit the growth of Melanoma cells.  ^[11]

 Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) may help to prevent Melanoma.  ^[12]

 Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) may inhibit the growth of Melanoma cells.  ^[13]

 Ginsenoside Rb2 may prevent the metastasis of Melanoma cells to other regions of the body (especially to the Lungs).  ^[14]

 Ginsenoside Rg3 may prevent the metastasis of Melanoma cells to other regions of the body (especially to the Lungs).  ^[15]

 Ginsenoside Rh2 may prevent the further growth of Melanoma cells and converts Melanoma cells back to normal Melanocytes.  ^[16]
