Overview

Dimethylaminoethanol is a modified form of Choline - it is manufactured naturally in small amounts within the Brain and is also found in small amounts in the diet.  It is also regarded as a (non-prescription) Smart Drug.  DMAE is chemically similar to Diethylaminoethanol (DEAE).

Health Benefits of DMAE

Aging & Life Extension

DMAE may possess Life Extension potential.  [1]

DMAE may facilitate the removal of Lipofuscin from Heart Muscle, Neurons and the Skin.  [2]

Cells

DMAE may reduce the degradation of Cell Membranes and may help to stabilize Cell Membranes.  [3]

Detoxification

DMAE may reduce the incidence and severity of Hangovers in people who consume excessive amounts of Alcohol.  [4]

Metabolism

DMAE may improve Athletic Performance (by improving the body’s production of Energy).  [5]

DMAE may inhibit (and reverse) the Cross-Linking of endogenous Proteins.  [6]

DMAE may increase the body's production of Energy and people using DMAE often report increases in their levels of Energy.  [7]

DMAE may alleviate Fatigue (by increasing the body's production of Energy).  [8]

DMAE may scavenge Hydroxyl Free Radicals.  [9]

DMAE may facilitate weight loss in persons afflicted with Obesity.  [10]

Musculoskeletal System

DMAE may increase Muscle Tone.  [11]

Nervous System:  Ailments

DMAE may improve some aspects of behavior in Alzheimer's Disease patients.  [12]

 DMAE may alleviate Anxiety.  [13]

DMAE may reduce Apathy and may increase Motivation in Depression patients.

DMAE may alleviate the behavioral problems and hyperactivity associated with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) – up to 70% of ADHD patients may experience increased Attention Span, decreased Aggressiveness, improved Learning ability and (sometimes) increased Intelligence following DMAE treatment.  [14]

DMAE (400 – 600 mg per day) may alleviate Blepharospasm (eyelid twitching).  [15]

DMAE may reduce Apathy and increase Motivation in Depression patients.  [16]

DMAE may improve the behavior and Mental Function of children afflicted with Down's Syndrome.

DMAE may exert favorable effects on chronic Dyskinesia (including Tardive Dyskinesia) that occur as a result of long periods of use of major tranquilizers.  [17]

Nervous System:  Enhancement

 DMAE may increase Alertness.  [18]

DMAE (usued continuously for at least six weeks) may increase Assertiveness.

DMAE may increase Attention Span.  [19]

DMAE may improve the Interhemispheric Flow of Information in the Corpus Callosum of the Brain (thereby improving Creativity and Verbal Fluency).
