Description
Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for an adequate length of time in the absence of external impediments such as excessive noise or bright light and during the period when sleep should normally occur.
Insomnia may vary in intensity from restlessness or disturbed Sleep to shortening of the normal length of Sleep or to total wakefulness.
Prevalence
Approximately 10% of adults experience Chronic Insomnia.
Approximately 50% of adults experience significant Insomnia at some stage(s) of their lives.
These Substances may Counteract the Negative After-Effects of Insomnia
The substances mentioned below should be consumed the next morning after a night affected by Insomnia as they are not intended to induce sleep – instead they are intended to counteract the impairment caused by Insomnia.
Amino Acids
Creatine Monohydrate may help to prevent the decline in psychomotor performance and Mood associated with Insomnia. [1]
Tyrosine may increase next-day Alertness and cognitive ability in Insomnia patients (i.e. it may counteract the daytime mental Fatigue often experienced by Insomnia sufferers). [2]

Milk for Insomnia?

Excessive Ornithine (when consumed at night) may cause Insomnia in some people. [5]
