Periods of intense concentration are associated with prominent Beta Brain Wave activity measured by EEG readings.

These Substances may Improve Concentration Ability

Alkaloids

Caffeine  is a stimulant and produces multiple influences on your brain including concentration. This effect is short term.

Amino Acids

 Glutamine may improve Concentration ability.

Phenylalanine a precursor for Norepinephrine may improve Concentration ability.  [1]

Theanine may improve Concentration ability. This effect is related to its ability to minimize Anxiety that interferes with Concentration ability.  [2]

Tyrosine may improve Concentration ability (via its role as a precursor for Norepinephrine).  [3]

Coenzymes

Supplemental, exogenous NADH may improve Concentration ability by enhancing Energy production within the Brain.

Hormones

Human Growth Hormone (hGH) may improve Concentration ability.

Progesterone may improve Concentration ability in anovulatory premenopausal and postmenopausal women.  [4]

Poor Concentration ability may occur as a result of low endogenous Testosterone levels.  [5]

Impaired Concentration may occur as a result of insufficient of Triiodothyronine (T3) in the Brain.  [6]

Lipids

Phosphatidylserine (PS) (300 mg per day) may improve Concentration ability especially in elderly people. [7]

Minerals

Poor Concentration may occur as a result of Iron deficiency.  [8]

Poor Concentration ability may occur as a result of Magnesium deficiency.  [9]

Poor Concentration may occur as a result of Phosphorus deficiency.

Poor Concentration ability may occur as a result of Sodium deficiency.

Neurotransmitters

Impaired Concentration ability may occur as a result of insufficient manufacture of Acetylcholine.  [10]
