Burns
Description
Burns are Tissue damage (usually to the Skin) caused by Friction, Heat, Chemicals, Electricity or Radiation.
These Substances may Alleviate or Heal Burns
Amino Acids
Arginine accelerates the healing of Burns. [1]
Carnitine may facilitate the healing of Burns. [2]
Cysteine may accelerate the healing of Burns. [3]
Cystine may accelerate the healing of Burns.
The concentration of Glutamine is 58% lower in Burns patients than in non-burned persons: [4]
- Glutamine supplementation may minimize the loss of Immune System function that occurs as a side effect from Burns.
Ornithine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (OKG) may facilitate the healing of Burns and may help to prevent the Muscular Atrophy that often occurs in Burns patients. [5]
Carbohydrates
In Japan, Chondroitin Sulfate is often utilized for the treatment of Burns.
Heparin (applied topically) may facilitate the healing of Burns. [6]
Enzymes
Bromelain (ingested orally or applied topically in the form of 35% Bromelain cream) may accelerate the healing of Burns and may accelerate the clearance of Burns debris. [7]
Papain (combined with Urea applied topically) may debride (remove) dead tissue in Burns patients.
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) (applied topically) may accelerate the healing of Burns. [8]
Growth Factors
Exogenous Skin Respiratory Factor (applied topically) may accelerate the healing of Burns:
Human studies have demonstrated that topical application of exogenous SRF to Skin-graft donor sites in Burns patients may accelerate healing.
Hormones
DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) (cream applied topically or consumed orally) may protect the Blood Vessels that supply the Skin from destruction after the occurrence of Burns. This action may help to “save” the burnt Skin from peeling off as a result of Burns. [9]
Human Growth Hormone (hGH) may accelerate the healing of Burns. [10]
Melatonin (cream applied topically) may facilitate the healing of Burns. [11]
Microorganisms
Lactobacillus bacteria may help to prevent death from Sepsis in severe Burns patients. [12]
Minerals
Silver (Mild Silver Protein form applied topically) may help to prevent the infection of Burns. [13]
Zinc (oral supplementation) may accelerate the healing of Burns. [14]
Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen may reduce fluid requirements by 35% during the first 24 hours after acute Burns, thereby reducing the Edema that accompanies acute Burns.
Peptides
Carnosine may accelerate the healing of Burns. [15]
Iamin (gel applied topically) may facilitate the healing of Burns.
Proteins
Chlorophyll (ointment applied topically) may stimulate the growth of new Skin Tissue in Burns patients. [16]
