Cystine
Overview
Cystine is a Non-Essential Disulfide Amino Acid formed within the body by linking two Cysteine molecules by their Sulfur atoms - i.e. Cystine is the oxidized form of Cysteine. Cysteine and Cystine readily convert to one another and have almost identical functions within the body.
Health Benefits of Cystine
Immune System
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) patients may exhibit low Cystine levels (the best means of restoring low Cystine levels is by the use of Cysteine or N-Acetyl-Cysteine supplements).
Macrophages consume Cystine from Blood Plasma, and release Cysteine to stimulate T-Lymphocytes.
