Propolis
Also known as: Bee Propolis
Description
Propolis is a mixture of viscous gums, resins and balms collected from the buds and bark of some trees (especially coniferous trees), vegetables and flowers, by bees. When bees return to their hive the collected plant substances are mixed with other substances (beeswax and bee salivary excretions) to repair damage to their hives.
Propolis may Enhance the Function of these Substances
Immune System Chemicals
Propolis may increase the production of Interferon Gamma. [1]
Propolis may inhibit Stress-induced reductions in Interleukin 4 production. [2]
Propolis may stimulate the production of Properdin. [3]
Prescribed Medications
Propolis may enhance the ability of Anti-Fungals (Anti-Fungals) to destroy Candida albicans (i.e. Propolis lowers the resistance of Candida albicans to the effects of Anti-Fungals). [4]
Propolis may enhance the effectiveness of many Antibiotics - Pharmaceutical (including Neomycin, Streptomycin, Penicillins and Tetracycline): the combination of Propolis with Pharmaceutical Antibiotics may permit the effective dosage of Antibiotics to be reduced, may minimize the toxic side effects of Antibiotics and may decrease the likelihood of Drug Resistance to Antibiotics developing. Environmental Toxins
Propolis may inhibit the ability of Carbon Tetrachloride to damage the Liver and Kidneys (due to the Antioxidant effects of Propolis). [6]
