Streptomycin
Description
Streptomycin is a type of Aminoglycoside Pharmaceutical Antibiotic. It is manufactured from a strain of Streptomyces griseus.
Conventional Medical Usage of Streptomycin
Immune System
Streptomycin (1,000 mg per day administered via intramuscular injection) is used in the treatment of Bruscellosis.
Streptomycin and Antibiotic Resistance
Most strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis are resistant to Streptomycin (Streptomycin was once used to treat Tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis however Streptomycin-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis now cause approximately 15% of cases of Tuberculosis).
