Description

This topic outlines the various nutrients and compounds that minimize or prevent Inflammation.

These Substances may Reduce Inflammation

Alkaloids

 Berbamine may reduce Inflammation.  [1]

 Berberine may reduce Inflammation.  [2]

 Capsaicin may reduce Inflammation.  [3]

Gentianine may reduce the body's Inflammation response.

Taspine may help to suppress Inflammation.  [4]

Amino Acids

Arginine may help to counteract Inflammation.  [5]

 Glutamine may reduce Inflammation.  [6]

 Glycine may reduce Inflammation.  [7]

 Tryptophan may reduce Inflammation.  [8]

Valine (DL-Valine form) may reduce (acute and chronic) Inflammation.

Antioxidants

Most Antioxidants counteract the Inflammation of body tissues associated with Surgery.

Carbohydrates

Chondroitin Sulfate A (CSA-A) may reduce Inflammation.  [9]

Glucosamine may help to suppress Inflammation:  [10]

Glucosamine Sulfate may reduce the Inflammation associated with Osteoarthritis.

Carotenoids

 Astaxanthin may reduce Inflammation.  [11]

 Lycopene may reduce Inflammation.  [12]

Enzymes

Pancreatic Enzymes (especially Proteolytic Enzymes - Dietary [13]) may help to reduce (acute and chronic) Inflammation:  [14]

Bromelain may help to reduce Inflammation.  [15]

Supplemental Chymotrypsin (administered as soon as possible following injury) may reduce Inflammation (including the Inflammation that occurs as a result of sports injuries).  [16]

 Pancreatin may reduce Inflammation.  [17]

Papain may alleviate Inflammation caused by sports injuries.  [18]

Supplemental Trypsin (administered as soon as possible following injury) may reduce Inflammation (including the Inflammation that occurs as a result of sports injuries).  [19]

Serrapeptase may inhibit Inflammation (to a greater extent than other Proteolytic Enzymes).  [20]

Hormones

Cortisol inhibits Inflammation via several mechanisms:  [21]

Cortisol stabilizes the Cell Membranes of Lysosomes.

Cortisol decreases the permeability of Capillaries (resulting in less Blood Plasma and fewer Cells entering areas of Inflammation).

Cortisol suppresses the activity of Phagocytes.

Cortisol suppresses the synthesis of several endogenous compounds involved in Inflammation (including Interleukin 1).

 Melatonin may reduce Inflammation.  [22]

 Pregnenolone may reduce Inflammation.  [23]

Thymosin Beta 4 may reduce Inflammation.  [24]

Iridoid Glycosides

Harpagoside may reduce the Inflammation that occurs in conjunction with Rheumatism and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Lipids

 Beta-Sitosterol may reduce Inflammation.  [25]

Bisabolol may inhibit Granulomas (masses of granulation tissue) that are produced as a result of Inflammation.  [26]

Boswellic Acid may help to minimize Inflammation (by suppressing the Lipoxygenase enzyme that catalyzes the endogenous production of inflammatory Lipoxins and Series 4 Leukotrienes).  [27]

Cetyl Myristoleate (CMO) may reduce Inflammation of the Joints:

CMO is speculated to inhibit Lipoxygenase (5-Lipoxygenase), the enzyme that catalyzes the production of (Inflammation-causing) Series 4 Leukotrienes from Arachidonic Acid.

Chamazulene may reduce Inflammation (by inhibiting the release of Histamine).  [28]

Glycyrrhetinic Acid may reduce Inflammation.  [29]
