Description

Pancreatic Cancer is a form of Cancer involving the growth/development of a malignant tumor(s) in the Pancreas.  Until the tumor grows large, there are no symptoms.  Pancreatic Cancer usually metastasizes to the Lymph Nodes, Liver or Lungs before it is detected. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2019 56,770 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S. More than 45,000 will die of the disease.

Prevalence

Pancreatic Cancer is the tenth most commonly occurring type of Cancer in women.

Pancreatic Cancer is the fifth most prevalent cause of fatal Cancer.

Pancreatic Cancer accounts for 2% of all cases of Cancer in men and accounts for 4% of Cancer deaths in men (in the USA in 1994).

Pancreatic Cancer accounts for 2% of all cases of Cancer in women and accounts for 5% of Cancer deaths in women (in the USA in 1994).

Pancreatic Cancer is often lethal (it usually kills 3 to 12 months after diagnosis).  Less than 1% of pancreatic cancer patients live for more than five years after diagnosis.

These Substances may Prevent or Treat Pancreatic Cancer

Alkaloids

Berberine may inhibit th growth of Pancreatic Cancer cells.  [1]

Amino Acids

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) may inhibit the further progression of Pancreatic Cancer.  [2]

Carotenoids

Alpha-Carotene may help to prevent Pancreatic Cancer.

Crocetin may inhibit the growth of Pancreatic Cancer cells.  [3]

Lycopene may protect against Pancreatic Cancer (people with the lowest levels of serum Lycopene have a 500% greater risk of developing Pancreatic Cancer compared with those who consume higher amounts of Lycopene).  [4]

Enzymes

Pancreatic Enzymes may prolong survival and retard tumor growth in Pancreatic Cancer patients.  [5]

Hormones

Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEAS) may suppress the proliferation of the Cancer cells involved in Pancreatic Cancer(by inhibiting the Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzyme).  [6]

Melatonin may help to prevent Pancreatic Cancer.  [7]

Lignans

Sesamin may inhibit the proliferation of Pancreatic Cancer cells.  [8]

Lipids

Limonene may prevent the development of Pancreatic Cancer and causes the regression of existing Pancreatic Cancer.  [9]

Omega-3 Fatty Acids may help to prevent Pancreatic Cancer:  [10]

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) may facilitate the apoptosis of Pancreatic Cancer cells.  [11]

Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) may help to prevent and treat Pancreatic Cancer.  [12]

Perillyl Alcohol may inhibit the ability of carcinogens to cause Pancreatic Cancer.  [13]

Microorganisms

Bifidobacteria bifidus may inhibit the further development of Pancreatic Cancer.  [14]

Minerals

Selenium may help to prevent Pancreatic Cancer.  [15]

Sodium Bicarbonate may be a viable therapy for Pancreatic Cancer.

Zinc may enhance the cell death of Pancreatic Cancer cells.  [16]

Organic Acids

Ellagic Acid may inhibit the proliferation of Pancreatic Cancer cells and may stimulate the apoptosis (cell death) of Pancreaatic Cancer cells.  [17]

Inositol Hexaphosphate may be useful for the treatment of Pancreatic Cancer.  [18]

Prescribed Medications

Aspirin may help to prevent Pancreatic Cancer.  [19]

Gemcitabine is used for the treatment of Pancreatic Cancer.

COX-2 Inhibitors may help to prevent and treat Pancreatic Cancer.

Low-dose Naltrexone (combined with Lipoic Acid) may extend the survival time of Pancreatic Cancer patients.  [20]

Octreotide has stabilized the condition of some Pancreatic Cancer patients (and is presently undergoing further clinical trials for the treatment of Pancreatic Cancer).
