Description

This section lists nutrients, hormones and other substances that may retard various aspects of the Aging Process (or possibly the Aging Process itself).

These Substances may Retard the Aging Process

Amino Acids

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) may retard several aspects of the Aging Process:  [1]

ALC may retard the natural decline in the number of Glucocorticoid Receptors that occurs in tandem with the Aging Process.

ALC may retard the production of Lipofuscin that occurs in tandem with the progression of the Aging Process.

ALC may retard the decline in the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) that occurs in tandem with the Aging Process.

ALC may retard the inevitable decline in the number of Nerve Growth Factor Receptors (NGF Receptors) that occurs in tandem with the Aging Process.

ALC may inhibit the damage to Neurons that occurs in tandem with the progression of the Aging Process.

ALC may retard the natural decline in the number of NMDA Receptors (N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptors) that occurs in tandem with the Aging Process.

ALC may inhibits the increase in the size of the Adipocytes of the Subcutaneous Tissue of the Skin that occurs in tandem with the progression of the Aging Process.

ALC may inhibit and reverse damage to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) - the principal detrimental process implicit in the Mitochondrial DNA Theory of Aging.

Arginine may inhibit one of the primary mechanisms of the AgingProcess (it inhibits the process of Cross-Linking).

Carnitine may retard the progression of the Aging Process (by preventing the death of Cells via the maintenance of Energy supply to individual Cells).  [2]

Carnosine may retard some aspects of the Aging Process (specifically it may maintain the defense mechanisms of Fibroblasts and may improve the efficiency of the synthesis of endogenous Proteins).  [3]

Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetate (EDTA) - the synthetic Amino Acid used in Chelation Therapy (either ingested orally or administered intravenously) - may help to retard some aspects of the Aging Process:  [4]

EDTA may improve the condition of the Cardiovascular System (degeneration of the Cardiovascular System is a major factor in the Aging Process).

EDTA may help to reverse Cross-Linking (Cross-Linking is an important factor in the progression of the Aging Process).

EDTA may reverse calcification of the body''s tissues (the body's tissues become increasingly Calcified with the progression of the Aging Process).

L-Dopa may be capable of preventing and reversing much of the deterioration associated with the Aging Process (by restoring the sensitivity of the Hypothalamus to feedback-inhibition).

Methionine may facilitate the production of Glutathione (and prevents the decline in Glutathione levels that are associated with the progression of the Aging Process).

Amino Acid Derivatives

Pangamic Acid may retard the Aging Process (due to its Dimethyl Glycine (DMG) component's Antioxidant properties and also DMG's ability to stimulate general Circulation).

Antioxidants

Most Antioxidants may retard some/many aspects of the Aging Process:  [5]

One of the means via which many Antioxidants are speculated to inhibit the Aging Process is by inhibiting the Oxidation-induced age-related shortening of Telomeres.

Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) may retard the Aging Process.  [6]

Carotenoids

Beta-Carotene may retard the Aging Process.

Electron Transport System Chemicals

NAD may retard one of the primary mechanisms of the AgingProcess via the following mechanism:  [7]

1.                  NAD is a cofactor for the activity of Sir2p, an enzyme that upregulates the deacetylation (removal of Acetyl units) from Chromatin.
