Description

Uric Acid is a type of Organic Acid that is the end product of Protein metabolism.  It is generally found in high concentrations in human Blood and Saliva.

Health Benefits of Uric Acid

Detoxification

Uric Acid is speculated to help to prevent Cancer - Lung in persons who smoke Tobacco.

Nervous System

Uric Acid may enhance some aspects of Mental Function (by stimulating the Central Nervous System).

Multiple Sclerosis patients generally have abnormally low Uric Acid levels (and strategies that increase Uric Acid levels may therefore be useful for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis).  [1]

Metabolism

Uric Acid possesses powerful Antioxidants properties:  [2]

Uric Acid may help to deactivate Hydroxyl Free Radicals.

Uric Acid may help to scavenge Peroxynitrite Free Radicals.

Uric Acid may help to deactivate Singlet Oxygen Free Radicals.

These Substances may Enhance the Function of Uric Acid

Alkaloids

All Methylxanthines are easily oxidized to Uric Acid.

Enzymes

Xanthine Oxidase increases the production of endogenous Uric Acid.

Glycosides

Aucubin increases the excretion of Uric Acid by the Kidneys.

Minerals

Molybdenum may activate the production of endogenous Uric Acid (via the Xanthine Oxidase enzyme).  [3]

Nucleic Compounds

Inosine may increase Uric Acid levels.

Supplemental or dietary Nucleic Acids - Endogenous (Deoxyribonucleic Acid or Ribonucleic Acid) may increase the body''s Uric Acid levels.

Purines are metabolized and broken down into Uric Acid for excretion from the body.

Vitamins

The Nicotinic Acid form of Vitamin B3 may increase endogenous Uric Acid levels.
