Introduction

This section describes other substances, foods, compounds and nutrients that improve the absorption or therapeutic effects of Calcium.

These Substances may Enhance the Function of Calcium

Amino Acids

Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetate (EDTA) - the synthetic Amino Acid used in Chelation Therapy – may remove (free) Calcium from the atherosclerotic plaques that are associated with Atherosclerosis.

 Glycine may increase Calcium absorption.

Lysine may function as a carrier vehicle for Calcium within the body.

Taurine may facilitate the transport of Calcium into and out of the body's Cells.

Carbohydrates

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) may increase the absorption of Calcium.  [1]

Inulin may improve Calcium absorption.  [2]

 Lactose may improve Calcium absorption.

Lactulose may enhance the absorption of Calcium.  [3]

Xylitol may facilitate the intestinal absorption of Calcium.  [4]

Digestive Juices

Hydrochloric Acid is required for the absorption of Calcium:  [5]

When the body has insufficient Hydrochloric Acid (Hypochlorhydria), the body is unable to Chelate Calcium (i.e. bind it with an Amino Acid) for use in building Bones.

Electromagnetic Radiation

The Ultra-Violet Radiation in Sunlight may facilitate the absorption of Calcium (by stimulating the production of Vitamin D3 within the body).  [6]

Hormones

Calcitonin may enhance the ability of the Bones to store Calcium by inhibiting the release of Calcium from the Bones and by transferring Calcium from the bloodstream into the Bones.

Estrogens may enhance the retentin of Calcium in the Bones.
