Grape Seeds
Overview
Grape Seeds contain concentrated amounts of Vitamin E, flavonoids, linoleic acid, and oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes OPCs, powerful antioxidants, which destroy free radicals - harmful compounds in the body that damage DNA (genetic material) and can even cause cell death. These compounds can also be found in lower concentrations in the skin of the grape.
Grape Seed extract contains a specific OPC named Procyanidin B2-3'-O-gallate that is not present in Pycnogenol. Procyanidin B2-3'-O-gallate is said to be the most powerful individual OPC yet discovered. Evidence suggests that grape seed extract can help treat chronic venous insufficiency and edema. No side effects have been observed. [1]
Many of the health benefits of Grape Seeds can be obtained by consuming Purple Grape Juice as the Grape Seeds are not removed from Purple Grape Juice during its manufacture.
Quality Grape Seed extract products are standardized to contain 95% Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPCs)
Scientific Name
Vitis vinifera
Grape Seeds may Enhance the Function of these Substances
Carbohydrates
Grape Seeds, extract form, may protect the body’s Hyaluronic Acid content from destruction by the Hyaluronidase enzyme due to the OPCs content inhibiting the activity of Hyaluronidase. [2]
Immune System Chemicals
Grape Seeds, extract, may stimulate the production of Interferon Gamma. [3]
Nucleic Compounds
Grape Seeds, extract, may help to prevent damage to the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) content of Cells due to the OPCs content of Grape Seeds. [4]
