Health Benefits of Alpha-Linolenic Acid (LNA)

Cardiovascular System

LNA may help to prevent Atherosclerosis.  [1]

LNA may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting.  [2]

LNA may help to generate the electrical currents that make the Heart beat in an orderly sequence.

High Blood Pressure (elevated Blood Pressure) may occur as result of LNA deficiency and supplemental LNA may help to lower elevated Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients  [3]

LNA (at least 2,000 mg per day) may help to prevent Ischemic Heart Disease and may reduce the mortality rate in people already affected by Ischemic Heart Disease:  [4]

LNA may reduce the risk of a second Heart Attack in people who have previously experienced a Heart Attack and reduces the mortality rate from a second Heart Attack by 80%.  [5]

LNA may help to prevent Stroke.  [6]

LNA may help to prevent Thrombosis (by lowering the body’s production of potentially toxic Thromboxanes that are often elevated in Thrombosis patients).  [7]

LNA may help to prevent Ventricular Fibrillation.  [8]

Cells

LNA is an essential component of all Cell Membranes and helps to preserve the fluidity of Cell Membranes.  [9]

LNA is capable of directly “communicating” with Genes, sending them clear messages to produce greater or lesser quantities of specific Proteins.  [10]

Retarded Growth may occur as a result of LNA deficiency.  [11]

LNA transports Oxygen into Cell Membranes.

LNA helps to hold Proteins in Cell Membranes by the electrostatic attractive forces of its double bonds.

Digestive System

LNA may help to counteract the Inflammation associated with Crohn's Disease (LNA functions as a precursor to Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) which in turn suppresses Leukotriene B4 in the Colon - excessive Leukotriene B4 production in the Colon is associated with the Inflammation that occurs in the Colon during Crohn’s Disease).  [12]

LNA may reduce the Inflammation associated with Ulcerative Colitis.  [13]

Excretory System

LNA deficiency may cause Kidneys malfunction.

LNA's tendency to disperse may allow the body's biological systems to carry fat-soluble Toxins to the surface of the Skin, Intestinal Tract, Kidneys and Lungs where they can be eliminated.

Eyes/Vision

LNA (applied topically to the Eyes via eye drops) may alleviate Eyes - Dry.  [14]

LNA may improve the health of the Eyes - Sight disturbances may occur as a result of LNA deficiency:  [15]

Studies have shown that after only four weeks of LNA deficiency, dramatic changes occur in the Retina of the Eyes - for example it can take up to ten times more light before the Retina responds to light in the presence of LNA deficiency (this occurs as a result of insufficient LNA being available for conversion to Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), the Fatty Acid that is actually operative in the Retina).
