These Substances may Enhance the Function or Utilization of Glucose

Amino Acids

Amino Acids - Glucogenic can be converted to Glucose within the Liver during Exercise and Fasting or when the body requires additional Energy.  Glucogenic Amino Acids are:

 Alanine

 Arginine  [1]

 Aspartic Acid

 Cysteine  [2]

 Glutamic Acid

 Glycine

 Histidine

 Methionine

 Phenylalanine

 Proline

 Serine

 Threonine  [3]

 Tyrosine

 Valine

Carbohydrates

Glucose is stored as Glycogen in the Liver - only a certain amount of excessive dietary Glucose can be stored as Glycogen and after the maximum Glycogen threshold has been reached, excessive Glucose is converted and stored as Adipose Tissue and Cholesterol.

Coenzymes

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotidess (NAD) is an important factor in Glycolysis - the extraction of Energy from Glucose - NAD functions as a hydrogen acceptor in oxidation reduction in the electron transport chain involved in cellular respiration.

Enzymes

Alpha-Ketoglutarate Dehydrogenase Complex (KGDHC) is involved in Glucose metabolism within the Brain.

Glucose-6-Phosphatase catalyzes the dephosphorylation of Glucose-6-Phosphate to free Glucose (which subsequently enters the bloodstream and increases Blood Sugar levels):

Caution:  excessive activity of Glucose-6-Phosphatase can raise Blood Glucose levels to excessively high levels.

Glucokinase plays an important role in the metabolism of Glucose.  [4]

Maltase hydrolyzes (digests and converts) Maltose to Glucose.

Phosphorylase is required for the conversion of Glycogen into Glucose.

Growth Factors

Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) improves the utilization of Glucose by the Brain.  [5]
