Overview

Ephedrine is an Alkaloid derived from the Ephedra Herb.  It is also manufactured synthetically as a Pharmaceutical Drug.

Health Benefits of Ephedrine

Metabolism

Ephedrine when consumed in conjunction with caffeine may improve Athletic Performance.  [1]

Ephedrine when consumed in conjunction with caffeine may increase Energy levels.  [2]

Long-term use of Ephedrine may reduce Insulin Resistance

It may increase the sensitivity of insulin receptors to the effects of insulin.

Ephedrine inhibits the process of .

Ephedrine taken 3 x 20 mg doses may facilitate weight loss in people afflicted with Obesity by stimulating , increasing the body’s basal metabolic rate (BMR) and by activating Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors.  [3]

Ephedrine especially when combined with caffeine may reduce abdominal visceral fat by influencing Beta-Adrenergic Receptors in the abdominal region.  [4]

Ephedrine may be even more effective in the treatment of obesity when it is combined with Caffeine
The usual dosage for the treatment of obesity is 20 mg of Ephedrine combined with 200 mg of caffeine, three times per day.

The combination of Ephedrine + Caffeine is regarded as one of the best anti-Obesity treatment when considerations for safety and cost are included;  Ephedrine + Caffeine is the only weight loss therapy that spares Muscle during weight loss.  Ephedrine + Caffeine may cause 100% more fat loss and 72% less Muscle loss than the results obtained by dieting alone.  [5]

Aspirin may further potentiate the ability of Ephedrine to stimulate weight loss and thermogenesis.

The dosage of Aspirin used in clinical trials that demonstrated its ability to potentiate the weight loss caused by Ephedrine was 325 mg of Aspirin + 20 mg Ephedrine, three times per day (= 975 mg Aspirin + 60 mg Ephedrine).

The current scientific consensus is that the maximum weight loss effects of Ephedrine are achieved when a combination of 20 mg Ephedrine + 82 mg Aspirin + 200 mg Caffeine is employed three times per day.  [6]

Theophylline may potentiate the ability of Ephedrine to facilitate weight loss in persons afflicted with Obesity.

Willowbark may enhance the ability of Ephedrine to facilitate (via ) weight loss in people afflicted with Obesity (when consumed concurrently with Ephedrine or Ephedra) (due to the Salicin content of Willowbark).

Ephedrine (especially when combined with Caffeine) may increase Stamina.  [7]

Nervous System

Ephedrine may suppress the Appetite.  [8]

Ephedrine may stimulate the Central Nervous System (CNS) by imitating the actions of Adrenaline:

Ephedrine may stimulate stimulate all three sub-types of Beta-Adrenergic Receptors (it is regarded as a relatively nonselective Beta-2 Adrenergic Receptor Agonists with many overlapping Beta-1 Adrenergic Receptor Agonist effects).  Ephedrine may also stimulates Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors([9]) and to a lesser extent, Alpha-Adrenergic Receptors.

Respiratory System

Ephedrine may alleviate the associated with Asthma.  [10]

Ephedrine may Enhance the Function of these Substances

Alkaloids

Ephedrine (when consumed in conjunction with (i.e. simultaneously with) Caffeine) may further potentiate many of the effects of Caffeine (including Caffeine’s effects on Athletic Performance and Obesity).  [11]
