Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors
Description
Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors are a type of Beta-Adrenergic Receptor located on Adipocytes. The number of Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors in the body’s Brown Adipose Tissue varies with each individual - persons with a genetic predisposition to Obesity or Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 have a diminished number of and/or defective Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors.
Biological Function of Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors
Metabolism
When stimulated, Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors stimulate the production of Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT) - i.e. they activate , increase the body’s Basal Metabolism (BMR) and therefore help to prevent Obesity.
These Substances Enhance or Activate Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors
Alkaloids
At least 43% of the induced by Ephedrine is caused by activation of Beta-3 Adrenergic Receptors. [1]
