These Substances may Enhance the Health of People who Exercise

Amino Acids

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) may enhance the performance of people who Exercise (when ALC is administered prior to Exercise).  [1]

Alanine is released from Muscle tissue during Exercise and converted to Glucose in the Liver.

Arginine may reduce Exercise-induced increases in plasma Lactic Acid and Ammonia.  Arginine may reduce the Inflammation that occurs during Intensive Exercise.  [2]

Supplemental Amino Acids - Branched Chain (BCAAs) may help to minimize the body’s need to catabolize BCAAs from Muscles during Exercise by providing an alternate source of BCAAs for the body to convert to Alanine:  [3]

Leucine is released from Muscles during Exercise for use in the production of Alanine - therefore excessive Exercise or Endurance Exercise may cause depletion of Leucine and supplemental Leucine may help to counteract this Exercise-induced loss of Muscle Leucine.  [4]

Carnitine (2,000 - 6,000 mg per day) may improve Cardiovascular Function in persons who Exercise, may reduce the accumulation of Lactic Acid during Exercise, may prevent Muscle Pain in persons who Exercise, may increase Muscle Carnitine levels during Exercise, may prevent Exercise-induced declines in Muscle Carnitine levels and may increase the rate of recovery following Exercise:  [5]

Carnitine may enhance Athletic Performance in persons who engage in Aerobic Exercise.

Citrulline may facilitate Energy production during Exercise, may delay Fatigue during Exercise and may facilitate recovery after Exercise.  [6]

Creatine Monohydrate (20 grams per day) may decrease the accumulation of Ammonia in the Blood Plasma during and after intensive Exercise.  [7]

Cysteine (especially the N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) form of Cysteine) may counteract the excessive generation of Free Radicals in persons who Exercise:  [8]

NAC may prevent the Exercise-induced destruction of Glutathione in people who Exercise (by preventing the oxidation of Glutathione).

Glutamine may assist people who regularly engage in strenuous Exercise:  [9]

-           Glutamine may counteract the Acidosis that often occurs as a result of Exercise.

-           Glutamine may prevent the breakdown of Proteins within Muscles that leads to loss of Muscle mass (catabolism) that often occurs after strenuous Exercise.

Glutamine may minimize the Muscle Pain that occurs after strenuous Exercise.  [10]
