Stress - Substances that Alleviate
These Substances Improve the Body''s Ability to Handle Stress
Amino Acids
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) may inhibit the excessive release of Cortisol in response to Stress and may inhibit the depletion of Luteinizing Hormone Releasing Hormone (LHRH) and Testosterone that occurs as a result of excessive Stress. [1]
Arginine (combined with Lysine) may reduce Stress-induced Anxiety. [2]
Stress may increase the body’s requirement for Glutamine as excessive Stress causes severe depletion of Glutamine. [3]
Lysine (combined with Arginine) may reduce Stress-induced Anxiety. [4]
Theanine may counteract the toxic effects of excessive Stress. [5]
Stress may increase the body''s requirements for Threonine.
Tyrosine may counteract some of the toxic effects of Stress: [6]
Tyrosine may suppress the rise in plasma Corticosterone that occurs following acute Stress. [7]
Tyrosine may counteract the depletion of Norepinephrine that occurs as a result of excessive physical or mental Stress.
Glycosides
Eleutheroside B (a constituent of Siberian Ginseng) may improve the body’s ability to withstand excessive Stress (and it is believed to be the Eleutheroside B content of Siberian Ginseng that gives Siberian Ginseng this same property).
Hormones
Adrenaline, Cortisol and Cortisone are manufactured and released as a result of Stress and these Hormones cause adaptive physiological changes to occur that allow the body to cope with Stress:
Caution: Excessive quantities of these Hormones are released in people who are subjected to excessive Stress and these large quantities of released hormones are toxic to the body.
Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) is released from the Pituitary Gland in response to Stress.
Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEA) may improve the ability of the body to handle Stress. [8]
