Description
Cimetidine is a a type of Histamine H2 Receptor Antagonist (Anti-Histamine Pharmaceutical Drug).
Therapeutic Uses of Cimetidine
Digestive System
Cimetidine is commonly recommended for the treatment of Gastritis. It “works” by blocking the release of Hydrochloric Acid in the Stomach. This reduction in Hydrochloric Acid is thought to permit the Stomach to heal.
Cimetidine is commonly prescribed in the treatment of Ulcers - Peptic (due to its ability to reduce the secretion of Gastric Juice):
Cimetidine reduces the secretion of excessive Gastric Juice that has been implicated in Peptic Ulcers.
Cimetidine is commonly prescribed in the treatment of Reflux Esophagitis.
Immune System
Cimetidine may prolong the survival of Cancer - Colon patients. [1]
Cimetidine may prolong the survival of Cancer - Stomach patients. [2]
Cimetidine may be effective for shortening the duration of Herpes Simplex Virus lesion outbreaks and for preventing Herpes Simplex Virus outbreaks - this occurs from Cimetidine inhibiting Suppressor T-Cells:
