Lactobacillus acidophilus may alleviate various ailments of the Digestive System.

Lactobacillus acidophilus may cure some cases of Diarrhea. It re-establishes the flora of the Intestine.  [2]

Lactobacillus acidophilus may reduce Constipation-related Abdominal Pain in Diverticulitis patients.  [3]

Lactobacillus acidophilus may help to eliminate Flatulence.

Lactobacillus acidophilus may help to prevent Ulcers - Gastric by inhibiting Helicobacter pylori, the Detrimental Bacteria that is implicated in Gastric Ulcers.

Lactobacillus acidophilus may help to eliminate Intestinal Parasites.

Lactobacillus acidophilus may alleviate some of the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  [4]

Lactobacillus acidophilus primarily colonizes the Small Intestine.

Excretory System

Lactobacillus acidophilus may help to prevent and treat Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).  [5]

Immune System

Lactobacillus acidophilus may stimulate many aspects of the Immune System:

Lactobacillus acidophilus may stimulate the production of Antibodies in response to Antigens.  [6]

Lactobacillus acidophilus may enhance the ability of Neutrophils to function as Phagocytes.  [7]

Lactobacillus acidophilus may be useful for the treatment of Allergies, particularly those in relation to food allergies (according to anecdotal reports).  [8]

Lactobacillus acidophilus may inhibit some types of Bacteria - Detrimental (by stimulating the production of endogenous Antibiotics (Bacteriocins), lowering bodily pH, stimulating the production of Organic Acids such as Lactic Acid and Acetic Acid, competing with Detrimental Bacteria for nutrients and deconjugating Bile Acids).  Detrimental Bacteria inhibited by Lactobacillus acidophilus include:  [9]

 Escherichia coli  [10]

 Helicobacter pylori  [11]

 Klebsiella pneumoniae

 Listeria monocytogenes  [12]

 Salmonella species

 Shigella dysenteriae

 Shigella sonnei  [13]

Staphylococcus aureus  including Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus  [14]
