Lipoprotein Lipase
Also known as: Diacylglyceride Lipase; Diglyceride Lipase; LPL
Description
Lipoprotein Lipase is an endogenous Lipase enzyme present primarily in Adipocytes of Adipose Tissue. It is also present in the Heart.
Biological Function of Lipoprotein Lipase
Metabolism
Lipoprotein Lipase catalyzes the breakdown of the Triglycerides contained within some types of Lipoproteins (Very Low Density Lipoproteins and Chylomicrons) into their constituent Fatty Acids and Glycerol - for uptake into Adipose Tissue:
Caution: this activity of Lipoprotein Lipase may contribute to Obesity.
