Description

Isotonic Exercise is Exercise that is intended to improve Joint mobility and Muscle Strength or Muscle Growth.

Health Benefits of Isotonic Exercise

Aging Process

Isotonic Exercise may retard the increase in Muscle Weakness and Muscular Atrophy (Sarcopenia) that occurs as a consequence of the Aging Process.  [1]

Cardiovascular System

Isotonic Exercise may improve the general health of the Cardiovascular System:  [2]

Although it was formerly accepted that Aerobic Exercise is more beneficial to the Cardiovascular System than Isotonic Exercise, recent research shows that Isotonic Exercise may provide similar benefits to the Cardiovascular System as Aerobic Exercise.

Isotonic Exercise may lower Blood Pressure in High Blood Pressure patients.  [3]

Metabolism

Isotonic Exercise may increase the body’s Basal Metabolism (BMR) (by up to 7%):  [4]

This occurs as a result of the additional lean Muscle mass that occurs from Isotonic Exerces “burning” more calories (i.e. not from the additional calories “burned” during Isotonic Exercise itself).

Isotonic Exercise may prevent Cachexia (by inhibiting the ability of Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) to cause Cachexia.  [5]

Isotonic Exercise may be a useful treatment for Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 patients.  [6]

Regular Isotonic Exercise may reduce Insulin Resistance.  [7]

Isotonic Exercise may facilitate loss of body fat (especially in persons afflicted with Obesity) - this loss of bodyfat occurs primarily as a result of the increased Basal Metabolic Rate that occurs as a result of Isotonic Exercise):  [8]

Isotonic Exercise may reduce Visceral Fat  [9]

Musculoskeletal System

Isotonic Exercise may stimulate the formation of Bones and may increase Bone mineral density.  [10]

Isotonic Exercise may improve the mobility of Joints.
