Description
MPTP is a potent Neurotoxin. It is present in “China White” (a form of improperly manufactured, synthetic Opiate sometimes sold as a street drug).

MPTP may cause Parkinson’s Disease: [1]
Within the Brain, MPTP is converted to its toxic metabolite, MPP+ which causes specific destruction of Dopamine-producing (i.e. Dopaminergic) Neurons in the Substantia Nigra region of the Brain - this MPP+ generates Hydroxyl Free Radicals which destroy Dopaminergic Neurons in the Substantia Nigra leading to Parkinson’s Disease. [2]
MPTP also appears to kill Neurons in the Substantia Nigra in its own right (i.e. prior to its conversion to MPP+).
