Description

Warts are common benign Skin eruptions caused by any of several Papilloma Viruses.  Up to 30% of Warts disappear by themselves within six months.  Most Warts disappear without any treatment within three years.

 

Prevalence

 Warts are most common in children.  Most cases of Warts occur between the ages 12 – 16 years.

 7% - 10% of the population of the USA have Warts.

 

These Substances may Alleviate or "Kill" Warts

Immune System Chemicals

 Synthetic, forms of Interferon Alpha (which is normally manufactured endogenously) are an approved treatment for the treatment of Genital Warts.

 

Minerals

 Silver (consumed orally or applied topically) may kill Warts.  [1]

 Zinc (consumed orally) may cause the disappearance of Warts.  [2]

 

Prescribed Medications

 Imiquimod (5% cream applied topically) may be an effective treatment for most types of (external) Warts.  [3]

 Salicylic Acid (applied topically in a solution of 5% - 70%) is often employed by dermatologists to remove Warts.  [4]

 

Polyphenols

 Silymarin (applied topically and covered with elastoplast) may kill Warts if this treatment is persisted with for three months. 

 

Vitamins

 Vitamin A(especially Retinyl Palmitate applied topically) may successfully treat Warts.  [5]

 Vitamin D (ointment applied topically) may eliminate or diminish Warts (Seborrheic Keratosis (Senile Warts) form).  [6]

 Vitamin E (applied topically to the Wart and covered with elastoplast) may help to eliminate Warts - Vitamin E should also be orally supplemented in conjunction with this treatment.  [7]
