Description

Itching is the sensation of having or feeling a peculiar irritation of the Skin which causes a desire to scratch the area affected.  Itchiness can be caused by either a local Skin irritation or disorders of the Nervous System.

 

These Substances may Alleviate Itching

Alkaloids

 Capsaicin (0.025% cream applied topically) may alleviate Itching.  [1]

 

Lipids

 Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) (cream applied topically) may alleviate Itching.  [2]

 

Microorganisms

 Lactobacillus acidophilus may be effective for treating Itching of the groin, under the breastline, armpits, elbows, knees and the itching associated with Eczema and Vaginal Thrush. 

 

Sulfuric Compounds

 Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) (administered orally or lotion applied topically) may minimize the Itching associated with Insect Bites/Stings and contact with Poison Ivy and Poison Oak.  [3]
