Helper T-Cells - TH1

Also known as:  TH1 Helper Cells;  TH1 Helper T-Cells;  T-Helper-1 Cells

TH1 Helper T-Cells are one of the two types of Helper T-Cells.

Ideally, TH1 Helper T-Cells should be in equal balance with TH2 Helper T-Cells.  When either subset of Helper T-Cells dominate, illness results.

Cytokines

 TH1 Helper T-Cells release Interleukin 2 (IL-2) - which subsequently binds to and activates Suppressor T-Cells to become effective killers.

 TH1 Helper T-Cells release Interferon Gamma - which subsequently binds to and activates Suppressor T-Cells to become effective killers.

Immune System

 TH1 Helper T-Cells are primarily responsible for the Cellular Immunity arm of the Immune System (Cell-Mediated Immunity;  Delayed Type Hypersensitivity) which is integral to the clearing of most Antigens (particularly Detrimental Microorganisms and Viruses) which use intracellular mechanisms to survive attacks from the Immune System:

 If the response by TH1 Helper T-Cells is ineffective, the Bacterial or Viral Infection induced by Detrimental Microorganisms or Viruses becomes chronic.
