Description
Lactase is a Dissacharidase Carbohydrase Digestive Enzyme secreted by the glands of the SmallIntestine.
Biological Function of Lactase
Insufficient production of Lactase is known as Hypolactasia.
Digestive System
Lactase is responsible for the digestion of Lactose (Milk Sugar) by converting (hydrolyzing) it into Glucose and Galactose:
People who are incapable of digesting Milk (i.e. people with Lactose Intolerance) are usually incapable of manufacturing Lactase.
Lactase deficiency is most prevalent in people of African and Asian descent.
