Lovastatin

Lovastatin is a type of HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitor Pharmaceutical Drug.

Immune System

 Lovastatin stimulates the Apoptosis (cell death) of some types of Cancer cells:

 Lovastatin stimulates the Apoptosis of (acute myeloblastic) Leukemia cells.  ^[1]

 Lovastatin stimulates the Apoptosis of Neuroblastoma cells.  ^[2]

 Lovastatin (80 mg per day) enhances the Cancer - Pancreas cell-killing ability of COX-2 Inhibitors.

 Lovastatin stimulates the Apoptosis of Rhabdomyosarcoma cells.  ^[3]

 Lovastatin stimulates the Apoptosis of (head and neck) Squamous Cell Carcinomacells.  ^[4]

Metabolism

 Lovastatin is often prescribed to lower total serum Low Density Lipoproteins levels.

Prescribed Medications

 Lovastatin (80 mg per day) may increase the Cancer cell-killing ability of COX-2 Inhibitors (by up to five-fold).
