Cyclophosphamide is a type of Antimetabolite Cytotoxic Anti-Cancer Pharmaceutical Drug - it is also classed as an Immunosuppressive Drug.
Therapeutic Usage of Cyclophosphamide
Immune System
Cyclophosphamide is often utilized in Chemotherapy for the treatment of Cancer - it achieves its effects against Cancer by preventing the division of Cancer cells.
Toxic Effects of Cyclophosphamide
Cardiovascular System
Cyclophosphamide may inhibit the production of Red Blood Cells by the Bone Marrow.
Cells
In addition to preventing the division and reproduction of Cancer cells, Cyclophosphamide may also prevent the division of normal Cells - especially those of the Bone Marrow, Skin and Stomach.
Digestive System
Vomiting may occur as a side effect of Cyclophosphamide.
Excretory System
Cyclophosphamide may cause (hemorrhagic) Cystitis.
Hair
Cyclophosphamide may cause Hair Loss in 20% of Cancer patients taking low-dosages of Cyclophosphamide and in 100% of Cancer patients taking high dosages of Cyclophosphamide.
Immune System
Cyclophosphamide may suppress Bone Marrow production.
Cyclophosphamide may cause suppression of the Immune System.
