Also known as:  Human Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase;  NOS

Description

Nitric Oxide Synthase is a type of Lyase Enzyme that is abundant within the body's Cells.

Biological Function of NOS

Neurotransmitters

NOS facilitates the body's production of Nitric Oxide (NO) by stripping a Nitrogen atom from Arginine molecules and combining the Nitrogen atom with Oxygen to produce Nitric Oxide.  The remaining Argininine (without Nitrogen) becomes Citrulline.  [1]

These Substances may Facilitate the Production of NOS

Carbohydrates

Acemannan may increase NOS activity/production in Macrophages.  [2]

Electromagnetic Radiation

Far Infrared Radiation may increase the production of Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS form).  [3]

Hormones

Estradiol may increase the body's production of NOS.  [4]

 Oxytocin may activate NOS.  [5]

Neurotransmitters

Acetylcholine may stimulate the activity of NOS.  [6]

Peptides

Carnosine is a substrate for NOS.  [7]

Polyphenols

Hesperidin may increase the activity of (endothelial) Nitric Oxide Synthase.  [8]

Pycnogenol may increase the activity of NOS.  [9]

Quercetin may increase the activity of NOS (eNOS form).  [10]

Resveratrol may increase the activity of NOS (eNOS form).  [11]
