Overview

Minoxidil is a Patented medicine that is a synthetic form of Nitric Oxide - originally prescribed for oral use in the treatment of Hypertension and now commonly used as a topical hair restoring treatment.

Health Benefits of Minoxidil

Cardiovascular System

Minoxidil (administered orally) may cause dilation of the Blood Vessels and may thereby lower Blood Pressure in High Blood Pressure patients.  [1]

Minoxidil (applied topically to the Scalp) may dilate the Capillaries that supply the Scalp (it is speculated that this effect occurs as a result of Minoxidil stimulating the production of Nitric Oxide) and may thereby improve Blood Circulation to the Scalp and Hair Follicles.  [2]

Hair

Minoxidil (applied topically to the Scalp) may stimulate (some) Hair Growth in various forms of Hair Loss (including Alopecia Areata  [3], Hair Loss - Female and Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) [4]) in some people (by stimulating Hair Follicles and by improving Blood Circulation to the Scalp):  [5]

The best results with Minoxidil (Rogaine) occurs on the crown of the head in younger MPB patients.
