Overview

Thyrotrophin-Releasing Hormone, TRH, is a Tripeptide Hormone synthesized in and released by the Parvocellular Division of the Paraventricular Nucleus and the Preoptic Nucleus of the Hypothalamus.TRH is also present in some regions outside the Hypothalamus, the Spinal Cord, suggesting its involvement in various functions of the Central Nervous System.

 

Biological Function of TRH

Metabolism

 TRH may help to prevent Goiter and Hypothyroidism (by stimulating the release of Thyrotrophin (TSH) which in turn stimulates the secretion of Thyroid Hormones from the Thyroid Gland).

 TRH stimulates the release of Prolactin from the anterior Pituitary Gland.  [1]
