Description

Bile Ducts are any of the ducts (tubes) that transport Bile.

 

Biological Function of the Bile Duct(s)

Digestive System

 Bile is drained (secreted) from the Liver Cells (Hepatocytes) by many small ducts that unite to form the main Bile Duct of the Liver, the Hepatic Duct.  Bile secreted by the Liver is directed to the Gallbladder via the Hepatic Bile Duct.

 The Hepatic Duct joins the Cystic Duct (which leads from the Gallbladder) to form the Common Bile Duct which drains into the Duodenum of the Small Intestine.
