Overview

Tachycardia is a form of arrhythmia characterized by an abnormally fast heartbeat rate. Increased heartbeat rate is not usually regarded as Tachycardia until it exceeds 150 beats per minute.

These Substances may Alleviate Tachycardia

Alkaloids

Berberine is beneficial for the treatment of (ventricular) Tachycardia that occur as a result of lack of Oxygen.  Berberine can also help to prevent re-entrant ventricular Tachycardia.  [1]

Capsaicin may reduce the incidence of ventricular Tachycardia.

Amino Acids

Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetate EDTA - the synthetic amino acid used in Chelation Therapy may terminate ventricular Tachycardia.  [2]

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) may help to prevent the Atrial Fibrillation form of Tachycardia in postoperative patients.  [3]

Minerals

Iodine may alleviate the Atrial Fibrillation form of Tachycardia.

Magnesium may reduce the incidence of Tachycardia in heart disease patients.  [4]

Nucleosides

Exogenous Adenosine (administered via injection) may restore heartbeat to normal in acute Supraventricular Tachycardia patients.  [5]

Exogenous Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) may restore heartbeat to normal in Tachycardia patients.  [6]

These Foods/Herbs may Alleviate Tachycardia

Fungi

Cordyceps may alleviate (Supraventricular) Tachycardia (due to the Adenosine content of Caterpillar Fungus).  [7]

Herbs

Barberry may reduce heartbeat rate in Tachycardia patients (according to American Indian folklore).
