Description

The Media is the middle layer of Blood Vessels (mainly Arteries).  It is comprised of concentrically arranged Smooth Muscle Cells that are separated by bands of Extracellular Matrix.  It contains only very little Extracellular Matrix comprised of Collagen, Proteoglycans and Glycoproteins the serve to minimize Enery loss during pressure changes that occur during the pulsatile flow of Blood through Blood Circulation.
